Junior Cadet Program

As a new member of 966 (Wallingford) Squadron you will undergo Junior Cadet training. Check out the information below for an overview of your first few months as an Air Cadet:

Your First Week

Within your first week of joining the Squadron you will be introduced to how the Squadron runs, including health and safety, the format of training and also the distribution of paperwork for your parents to sign.

Your First Six Weeks

Below is a list of training that will be covered in the first part of your Junior Cadet training

  • Squadron Organisation and Practices
  • The Air Training Corps, Organisation and its Uniform
  • A working knowledge of Drill and Ceremonial

You will also be tested by squadron staff to ensure you understand the training given.

Weeks Seven to Sixteen

In this time you will continue to learn a wide variety of subjects which will become useful later as a cadet

  • Airmanship I
  • History of the Royal Air Force
  • History of Flight
  • Basic Radio Communications
  • Map Reading
  • Initial Expedition Training

You will also be assessed on these subjects by Squadron staff.

On completion of this stage of training you will be awarded the First Class Cadet classification badge for your uniform. At this point you will be eligible to take part in most Air Cadet activities such as camps and the first aid training.
