New year for the Lord Lieutenants Cadets
October 23, 2009 in Wing Events
On 19 October, Cadet Sergeant Holroyd became the latest representative of Oxfordshire Air Cadets to become one of four escorts for the Lord Lieutenant of Oxford, Tim Stevenson OBE.
The award presentation was held at RAF Brize Norton and included a number of additional awards for local members of the Cadet and Reserve Forces.
The Lord Lieutenant serves as a representative of the Queen and so takes part in a number of official events, including arranging escort for members of the royal family and participating in civic, voluntary and social activities.
Sergeant Holroyd will be the second representative from Wallingford (966) Air Cadets to be awarded this highly sought-after duty, taking over from the previous Air Cadet representative, Cadet Warrant Officer Preston.
In order to be selected for the post potential candidates must sit a review board held at Thames Valley Wing Headquarters (Abingdon). Sergeant Holroyd said: ‘In seeing the intense competition I never expected to do so well, however my five years of experience in the Air Cadets gave me the confidence to succeed’.
Over the coming year Sergeant Holroyd will join representatives from the Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Force and Combined Cadet Forces in attending a wide range of events starting with Remembrance Day Parade in Oxford on Sunday 8th November.
Over the past month, a team of cadets from Wallingford Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) have won several competitions against other squadrons in the Thames Valley Wing.
