On 29 June the squadron held a very successful barbeque event, even the weather co-operated by being warm and sunny – always a big bonus for an outdoor activity!
The stars of the evening were undoubtedly the chefs – Flt Lt Emma Jackson and WO Debbie Lowe who planned and produced a steady stream of food for around 90 people made up of cadets, steff, parents and invited dignitaries.
The evening was unusual in that the Civilian Committee had also decided to hold a fairly rapid AGM whilst the food was being prepared. This was successful especially as it managed to net three additional members for the Committee and a replacement Secretary. The current Officer-in-Charge, WO Barker, took the opportunity to thank his staff for all their efforts over the last year and the Civilian Committee for funding what turned out to be a great evening. The Mayor of Wallingford, Councillor Bernard Stone, expressed his gratitude to the squadron staff and particularly to the cadets for all their contributions to recent local events.
Unfortunately, the evening was tinged with a little sadness when WO Barker announced he would be leaving at the end of September to move to another squadron and that his replacement would be Flt Lt Simon Cragg. WO Barker received a well-deserved standing ovation.
